Saying Goodnight to the Old Lady

Brighton Photography Blog Old Lady 1

I’ve been regularly sharing my landscape photography on local Facebook groups for about a year now. A couple of weeks ago I shared my Saying Goodnight to the Old Lady photo, taken back in Spring this year. It captured the West Pier in Brighton at sunset, with a dog walker approaching. The pier is arguably the most iconic point of interest in Brighton & Hove, and is fondly known by many locals as the ‘Old Lady’ or ‘Grand Old Lady’.

I liked the way the dog walker seemed to be approaching the pier, and the soft light of the Golden Hour reflecting off the wet sand provided stunning colours. The angled direction of the clouds also accentuated the leading lines effect of the dog walkers approach.

After sharing the image I was delighted for a lady to get in touch and request a framed print of the photo for their home. They have had a very similar photo for many years and thought this would be a great way to compliment it. Having recently started my journey into professional photography, I was very excited to be making my first sale!

Although I primarily enjoy family photography, the draw of landscape photography is also strong for me. Living in Brighton by the sea and the South Downs brings lots of opportunities to capture lovely images. I’m looking forward to sharing more of these kind of photos and hopefully getting some further requests for prints very soon!
